The Tide Pod Challenge and the latest Bird Box Challenge can sum up Trump’s America. White dumbasses following the internet/TV star to whatever means necessary. Why? I’m not sure as I haven’t partaken in these of course and I’m willing to bet that you who are reading Guilty Addictions haven’t either. Build the Wall! They scream. White privileged teenagers wearing MAGA hats with goofy smirks on their faces stand in front of peaceful Native American tribe leaders. Is this where we are headed? Or do we hit the peak of this outward, coward racist insanity within the next two years? A lot of questions I wish I had answers for but honestly may not want to know.

Well let’s get into sports. Let us not start with the NFL Conference Championship games that happened this past weekend but rather the fast food buffet Trump provided the recent national champions in college football the Clemson Tigers. I’m not too good for fast food nor do I believe the unpaid student athletes on this team are either but as fellow writer Chad said, why not get them food from a local pizzeria? BBQ, shrimp, crab cakes being near the East Coast none of this is asking too much either. But then it hits me why Trump went so cheap! He owes his master Putin billions of dollars and knew if he spent more for food for a celebration of an American team sport that communists don’t believe in Putin would be bring an extra punishment down upon him.

                 This story begins with a...

What was I going to say in that last line? That was from a few weeks ago. “This story begins with a..." what does that mean? And a story for that matter. Funkadelic never lets you down. I’ve been groovin’ to Funkadelic’s One Nation Under A Groove album from 1978. Goodness I wanted to write ’78 like we were back in the 20th century before this millennium took place. Fuck that, I like using ’78 anyways. It really gets you into a mood for that time, getting into an album like that at a high volume. Feet don’t fail me now indeed. Okay, a break. Not well deserved though.

That was not a break well deserved no. Barely a paragraph of nonsense. The Super Bowl failed us, basketball season is in the late regular season purgatory before March Madness, the NBA playoffs respectively, and baseball is in spring training. Let’s start with the Super Bowl and begin there with the 13-3 final score of the New England Patriots over the Los Angeles Rams. I’m all for defensive battles but this game in particular was a clunker of all sorts. The game began with a nice downfield drive led by Tom Brady that ended with a Rams interception. The best of both worlds! But that was one of the few highlights until the game clinching drive by the Pats. The game had some wonderful punts though! Let us however not forget the Super Sunday food barrage of pizza, chicken wings, and various chips and dips along with cold bottled lager to wash it down yes that was the mountain peak of the day.

And that concludes the Guilty Addictions Super Bowl coverage. Basketball as mentioned before is better in the March Madness tournament (as proved by the previous two years of March Madness writings) unless your college team is having a decent season (mine is not) therefore you don’t watch much leading up to the Big Dance during the regular season weeks. College football is different as in if my team stinks I’m still spending the entire Saturday during fall channel surfing in the 11 am games of the likes of Iowa vs. Purdue and Mississippi State vs. Kentucky all the way until the 9 o’clock Pac-12 and Mountain West after dark matchups. Oh to be football season again how I miss it. The new American Alliance of Football isn’t going to cut it for me to spend my Sundays tuning in. Now that’s not to say I’m not happy there’s another football league in between the Super Bowl and Week 1 of preseason and soon there’ll be two in that the XFL is looking towards a 2020 start. I’m not judging by any means anyone that will watch these leagues, as football is one of the greatest creations of mankind in our creative history. Damn, I think I’m gonna DVR the games now and get into the season.

I’ve got to get the prediction out before everybody else. It’s a few hours from the beginning of March and I’m saying the Gonzaga Bulldogs are going to win their first national championship in basketball. They are atop both the Coaches and AP Top 25 polls right now at 27-2 (losses to only Tennessee and North Carolina whom are both favorites as well to make it to the Final Four) and the second place team in both is Virginia who also only has 2 losses at 24-2. Virginia is a really solid team but contrastingly win games with lower scores. Gonzaga leads the nation in scoring offense at 90.7 points per game and Virginia leads the nation in scoring defense at allowing only 54.5 ppg. Hell, what a conflicting style matchup that would be in the tournament at some point. Gonzaga has a roster full of fast, lengthy athletes and a diverse group of players from Japan, France, Serbia as well as the American Midwest and of course Pacific Northwest where the school resides (Spokane, WA.) I honestly haven’t watched much Gonzaga basketball this year as they most frequently tip off at 9 or 10 o’clock at night. So I don’t know if I’d go take a cheap flight to Vegas, hang around a few days and lay a paycheck down on them to win the tourney if I were you but you also might regret if you don’t.

See you in Vegas,

T.D.
