I've been staring at this damn computer screen all day long. I type a few lines of code here and there but all I can think about is the feeling that I'll have walking out those doors on my way to the local watering hole. The next thing I know it's quitting time. It doesn't take long for the smell of marijuana to envelope me as the drivers pass by. It's a Wednesday afternoon on Colfax.
Hours: 4pm-10pm. What kind of establishment is this? My watch reads a quarter til. I decide to head home for a quick change of clothes. Besides, there are plenty of options for good beer around here, and I'm reminded of a good happy hour nearby. As I make my way back down the alley towards Colfax a fella stops to ask if I'd like to buy some drawings for $.49. He moves on to the next person before I can even respond. Sorry man, I don't have any cash.
I see a firetruck and an ambulance outside the pub as I approach. A few people ask if I know what's going on as I make my way in. I say no, and that hopefully everyone is alright. Shortly after, the commotion ends and we all go on with our day like nothing happened.
Vine Street Pub is an eclectic place full of hippies, hipsters and hillbillies from a life long passed. I take a seat at the bar and promptly order a pint of "the dank", otherwise known as the Colorado Kind Ale (6.2% ABV). It pours a dark amber color and has a nice balanced taste with a hint of caramel and a hoppy finish. This beer is very approachable and hit the spot after a long day at work.
I only planned on having one but this whippersnapper bartender turns out to know more about beer than I had expected and has been passing out samples like they're going out of style. He's convinced me to order a Bombadil Rauchbier (5.9% ABV) and was it ever a great decision. A smokey flavor with a slight chocolate taste that makes me want to order a second. I'll be back for more.
