A Lost June Article or:
Another Latest Failed Attempt at Reading Faulkner

Just as the title reads I have failed another recent attempt to finish a William Faulkner novel. I’ve successfully read him before but during a high school or college summer when I didn’t have shit to do. I look forward to the days when I’m retired and I can commit fully to the Yoknapatawpha books. Too many distractions to read Absalom, Absalom! and by including this admission in this piece I feel I have gone to therapy and passed, thanks to you the readers.

Ahhh to be writing again for the readers. Another apology from T.D. yes I won’t make it long by god you’ve heard enough of that already. Rain has been endless the last few weeks in the Ozarks where I am and the South in general for the matter and humid days sandwhiched in between. I’ve avoided the floods in my neck of the woods but neighbors in the Arkansas River Valley, Little Rock and the Delta have not been so fortunate. Fellow writer Matt has been working down there in the mess and should have a detailed report about the event soon enough we hope on Guilty Addictions.
Goodness it feels good to be writing again. What was I jabbering about again a few weeks ago my last entry? Something about Faulkner? Yes of course.
I’m not going to continue that I just wanted to remind myself as the type is flowing from my fingers. A trip to the Ouachitas is in my future in a couple of hours but I wanted to get started on this piece. I'm headed down to Lake Degray for some night fishing with family and while I’m excited to reel in a cooler full of crappie, I’m baked and wish I could encounter a few of the fried fish fillets, hushpuppies and fries while I’m sitting here but that’s impossible in that I don’t have access to a time machine.
Okay this article is getting out of hand have we touched on any of the June sports that are happening currently? Let’s get started then: The NHL hockey finals are moving to their sixth game as we speak and the St. Louis Blues are ahead 3-2 in the best of 7 series over the Boston Bruins for the Stanley Cup. The Blues, a team added into the National Hockey League in the six team 1967 expansion has never won a Stanley Cup while the Bruins have won 6 and are one of the oldest hockey teams in the league beginning play in 1924. The Blues located in St. Louis are so well named partly for the song of same name and also home of the national Blues Museum so it’s hard not to root for them this championship series.
The NBA basketball finals are also in the final round for the championship trophy with the Toronto Raptors leading 2-1 in the series over the 2 time defending champions and winners of 3 of the last 4 years. Golden State has suffered injuries to Kevin Durant and most recently Klay Thompson but no one feels sorry for them that I know as they still possess the MVP/All Star weapons of Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Andre Iguadala. I’d feel better about the Raptiors victory (if it holds) even if just Klay Thompson would come back as that would be the lineup of the first in this Warrior run before Kevin Durant took the easy way out joining this team that beat his Thunder in the NBA Western Finals the season before.
The Grateful Dead is playing in the background (one of the 1977 concert runs that are considered some of the best in their touring history) and the smoke from my down south neighbor’s burning is wafting through the forest to my deck washed out by a sudden rain shower. It’s pretty cool even if I can’t see for the time being. This shall be continued…..

*Writer's Note: Months later I feel the need to update the June Championships that were in the heat of competition when I started this. The Blues finished winning their 1st Stanley Cup and the Raptors knocked off the Warriors, sending the franchise into a downward spiral in less than a year. I'll update you guys soon. A lot of shit has happened.
